Among the zoo stars are the graceful Delilah, the gentle Kembali, and their three charming cubs.
Meet Kembali and Delilah
Kembali, a serene male tiger born on November 16, 2014, at Hamilton Zoo in New Zealand, has been a beloved resident of Adelaide Zoo since mid-2018.
Known for his calm nature and healthy appetite, Kembali enjoys lounging in his bamboo-filled enclosure and taking refreshing dips in the pond during warm days.
Delilah, a five-year-old female tiger, joined Adelaide Zoo from Australia Zoo on New Year’s Eve, 2021.
In a heartwarming event, she gave birth to three energetic tiger cubs on December 21, 2022. This addition brings hope to the conservation efforts for Sumatran Tigers, with only about 400 remaining in the wild on the Indonesian island of Sumatra.
The Adorable Tiger Cubs
- Susu: Named after the Indonesian word for “milk,” Susu is the quieter, more reserved female cub. She often follows her sister, Marni, and enjoys interacting with her father, Kembali, through the mesh fence. Susu can be recognized by the two distinctive black dots on her forehead.
- Ketambe: The largest of the trio, Ketambe is a mama’s boy who loves staying close to Delilah and always seeks her approval before playing with his sisters. Named after a village in Aceh, Ketambe has a vertical ‘fish hook’ marking on his forehead.
- Marni: The smallest yet most adventurous cub, Marni’s name means “loyal and persistent” in Indonesian and “good” in Kaurna, the local Indigenous language. She is very interested in food and has triangular markings on her forehead with black flecks between her eyes.
On Friday, April 7, these three cubs made their thrilling public debut, captivating visitors with their playful behavior and natural grace. Don’t miss the opportunity to witness these feisty felines in their new habitat!
